Know how to make an Epsom Salt Bath

Basically, there are two ways of using Epsom salt for addressing the condition. You can either use the Epsom salt in sitz bath or in your bathtub. Sitz bath is a plastic kit that comes with a shallow basin and can be fitted over the toilet seat.

Fill up the sitz bath with warm water. Do not let the water overflow. Add about half a cup of Epsom salt and sit for about 15-20 minutes. Repeat the process every 5-6 hours to get relief. Make sure to clean the sitz bath after every use. Softly wipe the area dry with a clean cloth to avoid any sort of irritation. If you are using a bathtub then you can fill it with warm water up to 4-5 inches. Make sure that the water is hot enough to dissolve the salt. And add 2 cups of Epsom salt into it. Taking an Epsom salt after every bowel movement is highly recommended as it will help in soothing and calming your hemorrhoid.

Another way of using Epsom salt for easing your hemorrhoid is to use it as a paste. If you prefer another alternative to bathing then applying the paste directly to the hemorrhoid will also have a soothing effect.

How to make Epsom Paste?

To make this paste you will need Epsom salt and some glycerine. Following are the steps that you will need to make the Epsom salt paste.

  • Take a bowl and add two tablespoons of Epsom salt along with two tablespoons of glycerine and mix it well. Continue mixing it until a paste is formed.
  • Take a gauze pad and put the paste onto it. Then apply it directly to the hemorrhoid and let it stay for about 20 minutes.
  • Use it repeatedly after every 4-5 hours. The pain will gradually subside.

When should you consult a Doctor?

Hemorrhoids often cause a lot of embarrassment and every individual tends to suffer from it at some point in their life. If the hemorrhoid is at the initial stage and is mild then it can usually be treated with home remedies and some lifestyle changes. However, if it is of severe nature then clinical intervention is required.

If you have never had hemorrhoids and suddenly start to have rectal bleeding then it is best to consult a doctor who can help in diagnosing it. They will help you in finding the reason and remedy for it.

Intense pain caused by hemorrhoids can be due to the formation of blood clots in hemorrhoids. Therefore, you are advised to seek the advice of the healthcare provider immediately. The sooner it is diagnosed the easier it is to treat.

Last but not the least, if you feel that there has not been much improvement with the home remedies then it is best to consult a doctor. You might have to go for minor invasive surgery to get the hemorrhoids removed.

The bottom line is that hemorrhoid is a common health condition that often heals on its own in a week or two. However, if it persists then it will be best to consult a physician.
